About the Department

Located in rural Virginia’s lush Albemarle, Orange, and Greene counties, the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Company serves and protects a close-knit community of homes, farms, businesses, arts and entertainment venues, anda 900-acre vineyard.

The closeness of the community residents leads to a family-oriented lifestyle where neighbors look out for each other. This lends to the notion that calls for Barboursville firefighters are true emergencies.

Founded by the community in 1955 the department operates an Engine Company, Heavy Rescue Company, EMS, and an Auxiliary and well as other supporting services and roles.

The Barboursville Fire Department is always looking for people who are seeking the quiet country lifestyle and have a desire to serve their neighbors. We have open recruitment for the following positions:

  • Firefighter/Rescue
  • EMS
  • Cadet Program
  • Administration/Support
  • Auxiliary

As a member of our family, you will receive the proper and necessary equipment and training for whichever role you choose. In addition to having your skills put to use in emergencies, we also offer regular training events and community outreach opportunities that enhance our operations and the health of our community.

Volunteer Spotlight

Josh Gredler – Captain – OVFC

Firefighter looking at apparatus“At one time thought about becoming a career firefighter. While that is not the direction I went with my career, I was still curious about volunteering. I have always enjoyed helping others and wanted to make a difference in my community. After talking to other OVFC members I learned just how fun and fulfilling being a volunteer firefighter can be. I joined the department shortly thereafter and have enjoyed every day of it.”
